This is the time of year when Saturday Night Live makes moves on its cast before the new season kicks off. We’ve already learned about the departure of Leslie Jones and return of Kate McKinnon, but we didn’t really know about any new faces that would be joining the cast, until today.
Today the show announced the addition of three new featured cast members, including the show’s first ever Asian cast member.
That Asian cast member is Bowen Yang, a stand-up who joined the series last year as a staff writer and now moves over in front of the camera. Second up is Groundlings performer and impressionist Chloe Fineman. Finally, they picked a comedian and that’s the one and only Shane Gillis. Gillis was the talk of the town at Just For Laughs this past July where his New Faces set was all anyone seemed to be talking about. Fans of the NY comedy scene are probably pretty familiar with Gillis as well since he’s a regular on The Bonfire SiriusXM show and a variety of podcasts. Add onto the fact that NY stand-ups like Pete Davidson, Michael Che, and Chris Redd are currently doing well on the show, they might’ve been looking to expand.
Check out some of the new cast in action.
Season 45 of Saturday Night Live premieres on September 28th with Woody Harrelson hosting and Billie Eilish as the musical guest.
