This Week on TV: Ellen returns to stand-up

This Tuesday, for the first time in 15 years, Ellen DeGeneres is returning to stand-up comedy and she’s making a splash with Netflix. A lot has happened for the daytime talkshow host since 2003’s HBO special, Here And Now. On the heels of her coming out (a pioneering moment at the time) and losing a sitcom in the process, DeGeneres released a special and started a new chapter of her life as a daytime host where she found more success than a sitcom star. Rather than returning to stand-up because she “has to,” DeGeneres is breaking her 15 year hiatus for the love of comedy. Which is kinda how they get all of the greats. Ellen DeGeneres Relatable premieres on Netflix Tuesday.
